The Sumipaw approach

Recognizable first. Expressed in ink.

We begin with the details that make your pet unmistakable—the eyes, markings, posture, and expression—then translate them through controlled ink edges, soft wash, and warm paper.

01 · Likeness The reference guides the composition before any style decision.
02 · Restraint Ink and color are used selectively, so the portrait never becomes visual noise.
03 · Material Artist-selected paper keeps its grain, absorbency, and brush edges visible.
04 · Approval Standard commissions are paused; limited Rush commissions remain available when the studio schedule allows.

  • Semi-raw xuanBalanced absorbency for clearer contours and controlled washes.

A useful reference

Bright eyes, clear markings, natural posture.

One photo is enough. Add a second only when it helps explain color or expression. Avoid heavy blur and cropped ears.

Memorial keepsakes

A quieter portrait can keep them close.

Memorial orders can use softer contrast, lighter color, and optional dedication wording.

Policies

Clear terms for a personal order.

Privacy

Your reference stays part of your order.

Sumipaw collects the information needed to review, paint, invoice, and mail a physical portrait, plus limited visit-level data that helps us understand the ordering path.

FAQ

Before you join or request.

What exactly arrives?

A physical, hand-painted original made from your pet photo. The entry format is lightly finished and shipped unframed, ready for framing or display.

Do you sell a digital-only portrait?

Sumipaw currently focuses on physical, hand-painted original artwork. The entry format is lightly finished and shipped unframed, without fine mounting.

Can I include multiple pets?

Yes. The Classic size includes one pet, and each added pet in the same portrait adds $60. Additional separate Classic originals shipped together are $129 each. Large wall portraits include up to 5 pets.

Do I pay before you review my photo?

No payment is needed before review. Photo review is free, and we send a PayPal invoice only after your reference is approved.

How does PayPal payment work?

After approval, you receive a PayPal invoice by email and pay through PayPal checkout.

Can I request changes?

Yes. One small revision is included. New photos, full redraws, or pets beyond the selected size limit are quoted separately.

Can I request a special size?

Yes. Upload your photo first, then email the special size request to sumipaw@outlook.com. We will quote it separately.

Why are standard commissions paused?

Current Standard commission orders are scheduled through December 2026. The next limited opening is planned for late November.

How do Rush commissions work?

Two physical portraits are accepted per Pacific Time week. A Rush Classic adds $80 per portrait and is dispatched within 14 days after payment; transit time is additional. A multi-pet portrait uses one opening, while two separate portraits use two. The opening is locked only after photo approval and payment. Availability refreshes every Monday at 12:00 AM Pacific Time. Large Rush timing is confirmed manually.

What paper is used?

We use artist-selected traditional ink papers such as raw xuan, semi-raw xuan, maobian paper, and kozo-hemp fiber paper. The artist matches the paper to the pet and brushwork.

Can Sumipaw use my pet photo publicly?

Only with separate written permission. Uploaded photos are used for order communication and are scheduled for deletion from active order storage within 90 days after completion or cancellation.

Can Sumipaw show my finished portrait publicly?

Only after separate approval. If you approve, we can show the finished artwork without your original photo, full name, address, or private order details.

Is shipping included?

U.S. shipping is included for Classic portraits. Large wall and non-U.S. shipping are quoted after photo review because package size and destination matter.

What if the artwork is damaged in transit?

Email Sumipaw within 48 hours with photos of the packaging and artwork. We will review the issue and discuss a replacement, repair, or other remedy.
